Austin Senior Portraits | Butler Park

Austin is home to so many great locations for your Senior Portrait Session! From fun & funky, to iconic those Austin & Hill Country views, the choices are plentiful and equally unique. While we will collaborate to find the best location for your Austin Senior Session, one location that always lends to the perfect mix of Austin: Butler Metro Park!

You may think that a super popular location would make your images the same as others; I can promise that’s not the case. With the flexibility of this location, your experience and gallery will be uniquely yours!

5 Quick Tips for Planning your Butler Park Senior Session:

Check the calendar! Butler Park, as well as the Long Center and Zilker Park are prone to hosting a variety of events and activities throughout the year. Events such as SXSW, ACL, Christmas Affair, various runs/races, and performances at the Long Center can cause traffic and larger crowds; making navigating to your session, and during, a bit hectic. I will do my due diligence to keep an eye on these events as well.

Plan your wardrobe! As we move from each area of the Park, and surrounding locations, you’ll want to factor in your wardrobe changes. Changes are intentionally planned to maximize your gallery having variety but to also ensure you’re able to access changing areas. In addition, think about what you might be doing in a specific location and how wardrobe will factor. If you plan to sit on a wall, bench, or even the ground, consider the length of your skirt/dress or if your pants feel comfortable doing so.

Bonus wardrobe tip: bring along a parent or trusted friend to play the role of Wardrobe Assistant the day of! They can be in charge of carrying ALL the things, helping with changes (zippers, buttons), and being an extra set of eye on tags, collars, and cuffs.

Factor in the icon Austin skyline! With every Senior Session at Butler Park the ever-changing Austin Skyline is present and ready to be part of your gallery. How much of it, and at what location, is up to you but we do plan it ahead of time. he biggest reason is factoring in what travel time we may need. The pedestrian bridge offers a fantastic view of the city and water but requires a little more of a walk.

Plan your parking! Butler Park has limited (free) parking spots in a few locations and the Palmer/Long parking garage is almost always an option. If you opt for free parking, you’ll want to factor in extra time for your arrival as you may need to circle the lots, or have a parent drop you off and then join us. Historically the early morning sessions provide more parking options.

Grab a bite to end your evening! There are so many great places to grab a bite to eat after your session! Many are within walking distance which is ideal if you’ve snagged a great parking spot. My personal favorite is El Alma directly across Barton Springs Road.

Now that you’ve been inspired by such a versatile location, let’s get your Senior Session at Butler Park on the calendar!

Why Senior Boys say “no” and what Austin Moms should know

If you’re a boy mom in Austin, Dripping Springs, or Driftwood you have already had the very short, and one sided, conversation about Senior Pictures. My guess is you fell into the closed-ended question trap. You asked him if he wanted senior pictures and walked right into a single syllable conversation ender. If you’re lucky…
